Fees and Payments
Sunrise Midwifery charges a package fee of $3500 for complete midwifery care during pregnancy and birth.
A cash discount of $500 applies to clients who make all scheduled payments on time and are completely paid by 36 weeks gestation. The $500 birth assistant fee is required at your first prenatal visit after the initial consult, and is included in the cash package fee. Payment plans are available; please see the Financial Agreement.
The package fee includes all visits with the midwife (prenatal and postpartum, including blood draws), midwife and assistant attendance at your labor and birth, use of the birth tub and lending library, direct access to your midwife at all hours, nutritional counseling, and discounts on herbal remedies. The package does not include a $150 travel fee if you are outside of the Tri-Cities/Yakima/Goldendale area, and your birth kit (approx. $85).
I recognize that $3500 is a large sum for most families. However, I feel that clients will commeasurably benefit from the quality of care, direct access to their midwife, the absence of additional fees, and the control of their own health care dollars. Additionally, my billing service assists my clients in obtaining maximum reimbursement from their insurance company for the birth fees. I am happy to discuss your particular needs and find the best alternative for you.
Insurance
Washington state insurance (DSHS, Molina, Medicaid open coupon) is accepted and welcome. Sunrise Midwifery is the only homebirth midwifery practice in the area which accepts Medicaid.
I am not contracted with any private insurance companies, but in the state of Washington most policies are required by law to reimburse for licensed birth services. A professional billing service will bill your insurance for you; the amount of reimbursement varies by policy and is usually 60-90% of what you have paid your midwife. In many cases, my entire fee is less than my client's yearly deductible.
Insurance (including Medicaid) does not cover the $500 birth assistant fee, out-of-area mileage charge if applicable, or the birth kit. Check your policy for coverage of labwork and ultrasounds. Insurance reimburses for prenatal care and birth attendance by your midwife, but does not usually reimburse for postpartum visits. However, I believe that good postpartum care is essential to good outcomes for mother and baby, so it is included in your package fee.
